Adieu, Bernard!

Bernard Lacoste, who turned his family's modest sportswear company into an indispensable fashion staple for people named Muffy and Skip, passed away peacefully in his sleep in Paris on Tuesday. Lacoste was 74.

In memory of Lacoste, preppies and pretty boys have been asked to turn their collars down and observe a day of pastels. Be at peace, Bernard. Let flights of tiny appliqué crocodiles sing thee to thy rest...

how weird is it that Izod now looks strange to me because iPods are so pervasive?

Suze - if I had any Photoshop skills, I would have had a pic of a little Izod croc with wings, a halo, and a harp. Alas, I am a technoboob.

Claire - I give it a season before there's an "iPod Izod" polo with some sort of pocket for your player... :-)

I will wear my collar up in honor.

Oh hell, who am I kidding - I wear my collar up all the time.

The passing away of the crocodile guy ... wow. That makes me feel so old. I should add (quickly) that I never had one of those shirts, maybe because my name isn't Muffy or Skip, eh?

Spencer - you made me laugh really loudly last night when I read your comment. I think I woke up the next door neighbor. (Note to self: consider moving the computer away from the wall shared with the dude in Unit #102...)

Reya - it makes me feel old, too! I used to have a few Izods in high school (mid-80s), but I found all of mine in the King's Daughters thrift store in my home town!

Hand-me-down Izods for $0.25 - that's my level of fashion. :-)
