Bride of Satan keeps 'em coming!

Just saw this on CNN.com - apparently, during a Q&A at the CPAC event this weekend, Ann Coulter shared this gem of wisdom with the audience:

"Well, you know, screw you! I'm not anti-gay. We're against gay marriage. I don't want gays to be discriminated against."

Uhhh. Wait. Against gay marriage. But doesn't want discrimination.

Which one is it, bubba?

She continued:

"I don't know why all gays aren't Republican. I think we have the pro-gay positions, which is anti-crime and for tax cuts. Gays make a lot of money and they're victims of crime. No, they are! They should be with us."

Sometimes, I just... just don't know what to say. I guess I wasn't aware that gay people only cared about taxes and crime. Wow, kids, isn't that neat?!?

Sigh.

If Coulter truly is the face of contemporary conservatism and a touchstone for young Republicans, that's a sad statement about the continued political and social direction of this country. Wide-scale American ignorance. Cultural myopia. It scares me.

Nota bene: For a sane conservative's view of things, be sure to visit Andrew Sullivan's blog. Likely to be one of the few political recommendations I'll ever make here.

I just don't even know how to respond to this. Yeah, taxes and crime are all we worry about. Because, hey, we're paying taxes TWICE and we're the targets of bigoted, homophobic HATE CRIMES. Definitely, I'm going to jump on the conservative, Coulter-O'Reilly-Gingrich-Cheney bandwagon for those two issues. Surely the Republicans can make fix those injustices for us, given their stellar track record on gay rights.

I'm going back to bed now. Wake me when the world is dead and it's safe to come out or when someone finally shuts Ann Coulter, et. al., up--whichever comes first.

Ann Coulter used to have interesting things to say. She was edgy, but her arguments at least made sense.

I'm not sure what happened. But I would hope that other people have noticed the downward spiral.

When people like this appear, it makes me think they're actually double-agents, trying to point out stupidity and hypocrisy by taking those things to a ludicrous extreme. It'd be cool if that were true.

I started choking on my water when I read that quote. Are people so stupid that that sort of comment makes sense?

No, don't answer. I know already.

She is vile.

Or, as Janine Garofalo theorizes that she's really Andy Kaufman. That would be just like him wouldn't it?

I can see it now, in the middle of some undeserved interview on national TV, Coulter pulls off the blond wig and it's Andy Kaufman. He announces that he has been playing the right for fools all this time and would now like to jello wrestle Bill O' Reilly on the David Letterman show.

That would be LOVELY!!!

Isn't calling Andrew Sullivan a "sane conservative" akin to calling Joe Lieberman a "loyal democrat?"

Just an observation......

I don't recall when Coulter ever made sense, but anyhow, she has gone completely off the rails now.

Ten years ago Coulter was saying things that seemd like something a Klansman would say during the Civil Rights movement, and years later she stands by these statements and repeats them. I just don't get her at all.

Let me get this right here...gay people should vote Republican because, while they're being legislated against and being told their lifestyle is immoral and a sin against nature/God, they'll have lower tax rates?

The really scary thing is that she's popular with anyone.

Why would anybody seriously listen to her? She's a freak.
